Common Misconceptions About Water Filtration

NexGen Common misconceptions about water filtration

It is not a secret that adequate water intake is one of the most important determinants of a person’s health. Water is responsible for so many functions within the body. It carries oxygen and nutrients to cells, helps keep moisture in the eyes, nose, and mouth, and helps with proper joint function. According to Mayo Clinic, the recommended minimum intake for men and women is 15.5 cups and 11.5 cups, respectively.

In addition to drinking an adequate quantity of water daily, the quality of the water is also crucial. As water helps supply our organs and cells with the nutrients, moisture, and oxygen they need, we must ensure that our water is clean and safe for accomplishing this job. For this reason, water filtration has become a staple feature in many faucets and refrigerators.

Water filtration is one of the most important advancements that allow us to drink safe and clean water. However, there are many misconceptions about water filtration, and below, we will address several of these misconceptions.

Chlorine is the Only Contaminant that Really Needs to be Removed

Chlorine isn’t the only contaminant that needs to be removed from water; it is one of the many contaminants. There are four categories of pollutants found in water which are defined below with examples:

  1. Physical - anything that alters the look or taste of the water, such as dirt, coloring agents, and sediments found in water reservoirs.
  2. Chemical - elements or compounds like bleach, salts, pesticides, metals, and toxins.
  3. Biological - organisms like microbes, bacteria, viruses, and parasites
  4. Radiological - chemical elements like cesium, plutonium, and uranium.

These contaminants are all concerning and can cause severe illnesses. Water filtration helps remove them to keep us safe and healthy.

Water Purification Removes Minerals that Your Body Needs

Not all water purifiers are created the same. Whether your water filtration system removes minerals or not solely depends on the type of filter you use. Carbon-based or ceramic filters do not remove minerals from the water. However, filters with reverse osmosis do remove a minimal amount of minerals.

Public Water Meets the Highest Quality Standards

The public water system is designed to meet only the standards set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Through the EPA, 90 contaminants have been identified as illegal and banned from public water. These contaminants are only the ones that were proven to be harmful to the health and wellness of its consumers. However, the EPA refrains from placing limits on what is only suspected to be a harmful contaminant. For this reason, water filtration is essential because water filters help remove all the toxic and potentially harmful chemicals, optimizing water quality to the highest degree.

If You Have a Water Softener, You Don’t Need a Water Filtration System

Water softeners are an excellent tool to have because they remove the hardness found in water. Soft water is better to drink and is used for washing your hair and body. However, water softeners do not remove contaminants from the water, leaving harmful particles in there for consumption and use. For this reason, water purification systems and water softeners must work together to optimize the quality of water we use.

Do I Need a Water Filtration System?

It is safe to say that water purification systems are a must in our everyday lives to ensure that the water we use in our homes is safe and clean. Not only did his team deliver promptly and on time, they were friendly and left with a professional install of my new A/C unit. I can’t mention the AWESOME price I got, but needless to say they can beat any deal, and will give you the fastest 1st-rate service available.

Yesterday I had NexGen install a new furnace and a/c system to replace my 30-year-old system. Their representative Jeff met with me the day before to go over the system that would work best for my home, and presented me with a price I couldn’t turn down. Incidentally, NexGen’s price was over $3,000 cheaper than all other competitors.

My call was promptly returned by Jeff and an appointment was scheduled for the next day. Jeff presented an offer that I couldn’t refuse! A crew was available that day and came, saw and conquered. I had A/C that evening at a very fair price. Highly recommend NexGen.
